History of Our Authoring Products

Our first authoring tool, Creative Course Writer (CCW), was released in 1985. This initial product made it easy for developers to convert word processing files into mainframe-based CBT and mainframe application simulations which would run under IBM's Interactive Instructional System (IIS) or the PHOENIX system. In 1993, we announced CCW for OS/2 which lets users create extremely realistic training simulations of OS/2- and mainframe-based applications in the OS/2 environment. In April, 1999, we released CCW for Windows and immediately used it to convert over 30 hours of OS/2-based CBT to Windows-executable format. For other projects, we used the product in conjunction with Authorware, Director, and Quest. In recent years, the simulation capabilities of Authorware have overtaken those of CCW so Authorware has become our simulation development tool of choice for Windows and Web-based projects. The original CCW product is still able to create (mainframe) PHOENIX-executable courses and is especially good for creating simulations of mainframe applications.

What is unique about the CCW products is that all development is done using word processors or text editors. Everyone doesn't need to have the authoring software in order to author. Their word processor or text editor is the author's primary tool which greatly facilitates converting text-based content to interactive format as well as making revisions to existing programs.

In Seybold's 1995 CBT Report, the highest ranking for low development time went to CCW. We've worked hard to make it easy.
